I remember seeing my first “Blood Moon” unexpectedly while handing out burritos from the drive thru window while I was working perhaps 15 years ago. A total eclipse also took my friends and I by surprise on the rim of the Grand Canyon as we were taking a walk in June 1992. “Umm…why’s is it so dark all of the sudden? I could have sworn we just had a full moon.” I love the Laotian traditional explanation for an eclipse as well…the moon was carried off on the back of a turtle. This is my first attempt to photograph an eclipse…I fascinated friends almost a year ago by punching a hole in a piece of paper to project a solar eclipse onto the wall. “Is that for real?” They had to take my word for it because no one wanted to stare into the sun. The last comparable lunar eclipse was in 1982.
