Hi everyone. An unexpected CAT scan revealed a brain tumor ,yesterday, large enough to warrant immediate surgery (next wednesday). I feel in good, hands and I am not scared, but know there will be side effects warranting a few weeks of post-op therapy…risk of stroke, etc… Im concerned about it effecting my writing ability ,of course, because Iam having trouble hitting keystrokes….slicing a chunck of my brain out in that center of concentration center propabably won’t help. I am in good spirits….maybe it all hasn’t hit me yet…
I was told to apply for Social Security and advised that I shouldn’t plan on any sailing quite soon. That about made me cry. The technical description of the tumor made made evident of the risks in removing it…and had an afternoon meeting with a bright young speech pathologist who was very reassuring that I was coming a from a great starting place in respect to articulation………..I studied the MRI’s again just now….how the heck are they going to get that safely away from my brain and out of my skull? I have no idea how I felt no symptoms. At least I’ll finally get a new haircut.

Speech adversely affected. I am improving daily since the second surgery (yesterday…when a late ER visit prompted immediate surgery…where excess blood removed) Difficulty was expected with speech. I guess its the medication. I anticapate I full recovery. Its called something like Aphasia. Mayo Clinic definition : Aphasia is a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate. It can affect your ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written. Aphasia typically occurs suddenly after a stroke or a head injury. I am convinced that the medication to prevent the brain from swelling was causing this.
The surgeons and the nursing staff are taking excellent care of me…and I am grateful for them. I can’t thank them enough for being patient with me.
